In November 2006, Army Sgt Ryan Major’s unit was attached to a Marine unit in Ramadi, Iraq. Ryan was on foot patrol when he was severely injured by an IED. Ryan suffered multiple internal wounds, burns and injuries to both arms, and became a double amputee.Ryan’s mother, Lorrie, a registered nurse and single parent, took a leave of absence to stay by Ryan’s side during many months of surgeries, therapies and procedures at multiple hospitals.
Ryan is an avid athlete, having competed in many different sports in the 2016 and 2017 Invictus Games and Warrior Games.

Ryan vacationed in Hawaii during the Spring of 2018 with his mother and brothers.
